“Avatar 2” has at long last been released. We’ve watched as James Cameron developed and provided status updates on the four “Avatar” sequels which he put together at the same time, and he’s been hinting at this follow-up for literally ten years. Release dates have come and gone as well, but now that “Avatar: The Way of Water” is at last in theaters and there is already footage for numerous additional sequels, we are well and truly on our direction to “Avatar 3” and beyond.
In fact, filming for the third installment of the series, tentatively named Avatar 3 (more on that later), already has begun. The days of the vocal minority claiming that no one cares about Pandora and the Na’vi are over because the second installment in Cameron’s groundbreaking cinematic universe is already garnering plenty of attention from award bodies and reigniting Avatar fever.
Many people may have doubts about “Avatar 3,” because Cameron developed it as a four-film plotline that continues since his 2009 film. We still have 24 months until we see Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family again. However, we already know a lot about the sure-to-be ambitious threequel. Prepare your banshees to learn everything we know so far about Avatar 3.

Avatar Way of Water Recap
The Way of Water introduced us to an entirely new tribe. We met Jake Sully and Neytiri’s children, Neteyam and Lo’ak, and Tuk, their daughter. Also present are Kiri, the adopted daughter (possibly Dr. Grace Augustine’s reincarnation?), and Spider, a human boy who bears a striking resemblance to a certain malevolent Colonel. Furthermore, the entire Sully gang relocates to Pandora’s isolated isles in order to protect the Omaticaya forest people. The Metkayina, Pandora’s oceanic people, join the rag-tag Sully family on their task to protect Pandora from the relentless human beings hellbent on extracting the planet’s natural resources.
Since we’ve now met Pandora’s sea clan—who have a teal-toned body to reflect the aquamarine glitter of their beloved sea—we’re everyone left with a few questions. Where is Pandora’s fire Na’vi? Or the Na’vi of the desert? Or the Na’vi swamp? Guys, there’s an entire world left to discover. With Cameron set to direct three more sequels, we are nearer than ever to get a full journey of the mysterious, bioluminescent world.
When Will Avatar 3 Be Released?
Avatar 3 will be released in theaters on Dec 20, 2024. To be precise, this is clearly 735 days after the release of The Way of Water, which seems like a long time until you consider that audiences had to wait a whopping 4,735 days between both the release of the first film and the second movie.

What will the plot of Avatar 3 be?
At the moment, we don’t have any concrete information. Spider saved Quaritch but turned down his request to accompany him at the end of The Way of Water. Also, after Neteyam’s body was put to rest with the sea people’s ancestors, the Sully family has been finally accepted as Metkayina. According to Collider, Jon Landau indicated that the third movie would keep raising the bar in terms of technology and thematically and that we will meet new Na’vi clans and biomes on Pandora.
“Well, I think we’re gonna continue to raise the bar with the storytelling first. I think that what we’re gonna do is go out and meet new clans. We’re gonna go out and see different biomes, and that’s gonna present its own technological challenges. How do we present those? Just like water presented challenges in this one. And, what we’re gonna also continue to do is not look at just how we use the tools of technology, but how do we get the exhibition community on board with creating a ubiquitous improvement across all theaters?”
Avatar: The Seed Bearer
According to BBC News, the next three Avatar movies are titled Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider, and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa. If we can trust the clues in the sequel names, we can assume that since we did learn how to swim in this new sequel, we will be on land in the following film, The Seed Bearer. And let’s hope, we’ll meet some unique Na’vi who can direct us to our way around. I’m willing to roll up my sleeves and then go gardening with Pandora’s seed-bearing people. Fortunately, we’ll only have to wait till 2024 for its release. The remaining installments are scheduled to be released in cinemas on an annual basis.
We do realize for certain that The Seed Bearer will not feature a lot of gun conflict. “I literally cut about 10 minutes of the movie targeting gunplay action,” Cameron revealed recently to Esquire Middle East. “I was hoping to get rid of some of the ugliness and find a balance of light and dark,” Cameron explained. Instead of too many gunfire exchanges, it appears that The Seed Bearer will feature a great deal of inventive CGI filmmaking and stunning shots of Pandora’s surface.

Returning cast members of Avatar 3
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Cliff Curtis, Bailey Bass, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald have all been confirmed to be back as their Na’vi roles.
There is currently no word as to whether Kate Winslet will reprise her part as Ronal, but since the Oscar-winning actress said in a conversation with Marc Maron on his WTF Podcast that she got confused at times as to whether she had been filming a scene for The Way of Water or the third film, it would seem that she will return.
Giovanni Ribisi, who appeared briefly in The Way of Water, is believed to be reprising his role as Parker Selfridge. The unknown fate of Jemaine Clement’s Dr. Ian Garvin also appears to point to his return for the third film. Joel David Moore and Dileep Rao appear to be the most likely candidates to reprise their roles as Dr. Norm Spellman and Dr. Max Patel.
Two of the primary human characters from The Way of Water, Jack Champion’s Spider and Edie Falco’s General Frances Ardmore, will indeed come back for the third installment.
