Since breaking out in 2013 with a feature on Wizkid’s “Caro,” Nigeria’s L.A.X has been a celebrated artist. Signing to Starboy Entertainment, the artist who began his career journey as a member of a trio went on to win Diaspora Artist of the Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. The last decade remained kind to L.A.X as a steady stream of singles and two albums—2018’s Rasaking and 2020’s ZaZa Vibes—further cemented him in the Afrobeats canon.

On September 8, L.A.X released “Faster,” a polyrhythmic blend of Afrobeats and Amapiano. Layers of percussive elements and L.A.X’s swaggering vocal stack up, while Smeez Beat’s production gives this one its edge. Every crash and patter feels perfectly placed.

“I always love to infuse different sounds and make it one,” L.A.X tells Audiomack World. “So I mixed some classic Afrobeats sounds with Amapiano and here we are! I make my music because I want people to dance and forget their sorrows and that’s what ‘Faster’ does.”
